About Margaret Lowery
Margaret J. Lowery, Principal of Lowery Law, P.C., is the external general counsel for a critical access hospital, a medical device company, a psychiatric group practice, a children’s home and a florist business. “You may be wondering how the florist business managed to sneak its way in there,” Margaret laughs.
But Margaret’s career is, to put it frankly, a treat to learn about, and the breadth of her experience makes sense if you’ve had the opportunity to spend more than a few minutes speaking with her. Before diving into her career in law, Margaret started out working in interior design, “and I’ve managed to continue that love for design and aesthetics even into my career in law.”
Margaret Lowery is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. From there, she moved onto the University of Tulsa where she received her Juris Doctor, and in 2017, she received a Masters of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina.
One of the foundational moments that led to Margaret’s focus in healthcare law comes from personal experience. “I was left totally paralyzed below the chest in a horseback riding accident.” Margaret, who still remembers the day, was told — 31 years ago — that she would never walk again. “After getting paired up with an excellent doctor, he told me about a surgery that would either help me walk again or kill me — I had to go for broke.”
That surgery — almost miraculously — led to Margaret Lowery regaining complete mobility, and it’s all a result of an amazing medical team and the compassion of a tissue donor’s family. “That really lit up a passion for me to use my talents and skills in the world of healthcare. When I meet people, I’m able to say ‘I wouldn’t be here if not for the selflessness and compassion of other donors and their families.”
Margaret teaches Undergraduate Business Law as an Adjunct Instructor and Graduate Health Care Law in the Accelerated Degree Program at Lindenwood University.
In addition to her work, Margaret loves spending time with her family and her dog, and her passion for landscaping and home design has landed her mentions in a variety of local publications, including winning the 2018 Platinum Ward Master Bath award from the St. Louis Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel. “There was a brief period where I worked in interior design, and I love seeing that interest of mine continue in my life.” With that in mind, Margaret serves as General Counsel for a florist business, as well as for a critical access hospital, a medical device company, a psychiatric group practice, and a children’s home.
